These days, airport looks are a whole vibe. We have 2020 and Covid to thank for ushering in a new wave of versatile attire, everything from matching athleisure sets to tailored “workleisure” outfits, that allow you to jet set in style without sacrificing comfort. So next time you travel, whether you are heading to the beach with friends, catching a red eye for a business meeting, or fancy yourself a globetrotter, set yourself up for success with some of our favorite airport travel picks!
Let's takeoff!
Let’s start with what many would claim as the most important part of any travel outfit - the shoes!
For airport travel, we recommend sneakers 10 out of 10. Not only are fashion sneakers hugely popular right now (the global sneaker industry is set to top $86 billion this year!) they are going to be your most comfortable option for strolling (er, running?) through the airport. There are endless style options to match any look, so we’ve taken the time to sort through and pick out our favorites, because that’s one less thing you have to worry about!
Shoes:
Gola Sneakers - Best overall pick if you want to pack light! These leather sneakers that are an Anthropologie X Gola exclusive collab are comfy yet chic and will look great with everything from shorts to sundresses to a casual business suit. One and done!
Rothy's - A brand known for ultimate comfort, you can’t go wrong with the simple and classic style of this lace-up shoe. It also comes in every neutral color your heart could desire, though we are partial to the black so you don’t have to worry about scuffs along the way!
New Balance - An oldie but a goodie, these platform sneakers are trendy but also add a little extra cushion with every step. This light pink pair is a fun way to add a pop of color to a neutral travel outfit. If the platform look isn’t for you, you can snag a classic pair of New Balance Classics!
OnCloud - For a sportier look, grab a pair of On Cloud kicks! This pair is mostly white with a hint of neutral color. These are perfect if you plan to site-see via foot or hit the gym while traveling. They will look cute with your travel outfit and it’s one less pair of shoes you have to pack!
Bottoms:
Albion Fit - The name says it all! These “jetsetter” joggers are a classic style in a lightweight material that is perfect for long travel days. Not only do they come in petite, tall, and inclusive sizing, but they feature a snazzy gold zipper that sets them apart from traditional joggers. You can dress them up or down and wear them around town.
Bonus! If you like these joggers, you’ll probably love this jumpsuit! (Tip for ATX locals - if you aren’t familiar with this brand yet, they just opened up a storefront in the Domain, so head there to check out their full selection of travel pieces.)
Athleta - Step right off the plane and into the boardroom with the “Brooklyn Ankle pant”. Fabricated with featherweight stretch and a silky sleek feel, you’ll never want to travel in anything else. These wrinkle-resistant pants come in a ton of colors, tall and petite, and a wide range of sizes. They even have a stretch waistband…shh, we won’t tell if you don’t. ;)
Spanx - The high-quality fabrication and cut of these cropped, wide-leg pants gives them an elevated look and style but you’ll feel like you are wearing sweatpants, because technically, you are. Aren’t you smart?! They come in several colors to suit your preference and full length, if that’s more your speed.
Tops & Layers:
Annie Bing - Whether you are traveling or not, a denim jacket is a classic wardrobe staple. But it does come in handy for unpredictable airport temps! A lightweight denim jacket is the perfect travel companion because it matches with almost any outfit (so you can wear it for the rest of your trip, too) and because it instantly levels up your look. This slightly oversized jacket from Annie Bing has our hearts and will have your back!
Everlane - Traveling is the best time to break out your best basics, and for that, we turn to Everlane. Everlane is a sustainable company that kills it when it comes to producing high-quality, timeless staples. Perfect for mixing and matching throughout your trip, this organic cotton boxy cut tee will look great with your airport joggers or wide-leg pants. This shirt comes in a lot of color options, so there is something for everyone. While you’re at it, try these great cuts for travel/airport, too: Everlane Muscle Tee; Everlane Square Neck top; Everlane Ribbed Baby Tee; Everlane Relaxed Tee
Abercrombie - A simple satin-like scoop tank is lightweight, comfy, and versatile. You can pair this with joggers, a denim jacket, and sneakers for a casual look or with the Athleta pants mentioned above and a blazer for an elevated style. Post travel, this capsule piece will look great with jeans and heels for a girls night out or with shorts and sandals for a day trip with your kiddos.
Dresses & Sets:
H&M - Traveling in a dress is about as simple as it gets, a total “one and done” look. Like all the items we’ve talked about, this fitted ribbed midi dress is comfy and can be styled in many different ways, making it a truly versatile piece for your suitcase. For the airport, pair it with your trusty denim jacket and sneakers. Swap out the sneakers for sandals and shed the jacket for a warm weather vacay. Or add heels and a cropped moto jacket and treat yourself to a cocktail at a cool local bar.
Free People - If you haven’t jumped on the matching sets train yet, now is the time! Matching sets make picking out your fit for the day super easy. Plus, you can make multiple different looks from each piece, meaning you get a lot of bang for your buck and are less likely to overpack. Your suitcase will thank you! Or, if you’re like us, that just means you’ll have room to squeeze in an extra pair of shoes! This set comes in a lot of color options and the loose fit makes it extra comfy.
Abercrombie - Exercise dresses are all the rage these days, and for good reason. They are cute and comfy and you look on-trend without having to really try. It’s a win-win! We have tried a lot of different exercise dresses, and this one from Abercrombie is our favorite. It comes in petite sizes, has adjustable straps (you can even hook both straps together for a razor back style), comes in a lot of color options, and the material is soft and smoothing. For an Instagram-worthy airport look, pair this with a cropped sweatshirt (like THIS), sneakers, and a baseball cap.
